Pick and Store:
A good coconut is a heavy one. Pick a whole one and place it against your ear. Shake it up and down a little to hear if there is water inside the coconut. Avoid any coconuts that are cracked or punctured. Unopened coconuts can be stored at room temperature for up to two months. Once opened, you can keep the coconut meat for several days. If you decide to grate it, you can freeze it for 8 to 10 months.

Description:
Elephant yam is an edible tuber. It is one of the oldest plants known to provide food. It is so called because of its huge size and resemblance with the elephant foot. It is widely consumed as a food crop, usually boiled or baked. Elephant foot yam is basically originated from the Southeast Asia. Yam is considered to be a healthy low-fat food.


Pick and Store:

It is preferred to pick elephant yam from the markets where it is available is a fresh condition. It is preferable to wear gloves while handling the elephant yam as the sap of these plants causes skin irritation. Cool and well ventilated places are used for storing. Generally the tubers are stored in single layer. If there is insufficiency is storage space, then the tubers can be stored in two layers as well. But storing the tubers in a heap should be avoided.

The cashew nut, the third widely consumed edible tree nut, often thought to be a seed is actually a single seeded fruit of a tropical evergreen tree (Anacardium Occidentale), belonging to the family of Anacardiaceae. The kidney shaped edible nuts are called kernels and are obtained from the Raw Cashew Nut (RCN) after removal of the outer leathery covering which surrounds it, using different processing methods. The countries producing cashew nuts are Benin, Brazil, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, Vietnam, Togo, Ghana, Senegal, Madagascar and Burkina Faso in which India has become top producer, processor and exporter of cashew in the world market.


Pick and Store:

Raw Cashew Nut in its natural form is a soft, white, meaty kernel contained within the hard shells of kidney shaped, raw cashew nuts. Raw cashew nuts shall be the dried and packed in sound, clean and dry jute bags. The bags shall be securely closed and sealed.
